Calgary church members are packing all the items they purchased throughout the week to ship to children in need in Ghana! The shipment leaves Calgary on Monday, June 2nd, to arrive in Toronto, which will be part of a larger shipment from Toronto to Ghana—all for our Love in Action event, later this year in November.

Last week, we shared a bold goal: to gather enough supplies to create 10,000 goodie bags for the children attending our Love in Action event in Ghana this November. The response from our Calgary church family was nothing short of miraculous!

Every single family and young adult in our congregation stepped up, donating thousands of items from our list. Together, Calgary contributed to almost all the essential items remaining on our donation list, including:

  • 10,000 individually packaged snacks (like Welch’s, Sunkist, and Mott's fruit snacks and granola bars)

  • 2,000 six-inch rulers

  • 10,000: napkins, rubber bands, forks, and spoons

  • 10 (2kg) jugs of Kool-Aid juice mix

  • 5 (2kg) jugs of Tang juice mix

Throughout the week, members were busy shopping, collecting, and preparing for Sunday. Then on Sunday, after the service, they gathered to sort, wrap, and pack everything for shipment. One family happened to purchase a pickup truck, just 2 weeks prior. It was perfect timing, and no one knew that in exactly 2 weeks, we would need a pickup truck to load and transport several heavy boxes to a warehouse with donated items for Joy Missions.

The 10,000 bags are more than just treats—they’re a backup plan born from heartbreak. Last year, we prepared meals for 3,000 children, but 5,000 came. We served every grain of rice, but it wasn’t enough. This year, we’re determined that no child leaves empty-handed.

Each goodie bag will include a single fruit snack and a granola bar. We dream of doing more—like having enough food for each child to enjoy at least one meal. And maybe one year, adding sunglasses for each child—but for now, we’re focused on ensuring every child receives something to eat with the money we have. No child should go home hungry.

When our volunteers told Theresa, the founder of Joy Missions, what Calgary was doing and how much they had acquired and were sending for the work in Ghana, she was moved to tears. We did not expect the generosity of our Calgary family, but we're speechless. May God richly bless each of you for your love and contribution. We can't wait to share the impact of your giving when those lovely children receive all that you've donated.

Next on our list: juice boxes. We have 114, and we need a total of 10,000. Just this morning, our volunteer leaders in Toronto informed us of a grocery sale - 40 juice boxes for $10. That's 0.25 cents a juice box! It would be a miracle to get all 9,886 juice boxes by the end of the week!

Will you help us get there? Every donation goes directly to the mission—no paid staff, just passionate volunteers. Everything we buy is 100% from donations. This is love in action. Every dollar you contribute helps ensure a child in Ghana will receive something to brighten their day. This week, all donations will go towards purchasing all the juice boxes we'll be handing out. Be a part of the mission to spread joy to those who need it most.
